President Uhuru Kenyatta has cleared medical bill for veteran Journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela. Mbotela who was set to be discharged out ogf the hospital on Friday 13th November from Nairobi South Hospital since admission on October 29th 2020.
On Friday’s Hot 96 bulletin Leonard asked well-wishers through the hospital raise Ksh 1.1 million since the hospital had refused to discharge him until his clearance.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, Mbotela was discharged from the health facility on Saturday, November 14, after the president paid KSh 1 million in cash while the rest was paid by well-wishers.
Mbotela Is widely known for his pluckiest act during the 1982 attempted Coup de tat where he was forced to read the news of the rebels because his voice was known throughout the country.
In his working life he was also a member of the "Presidential Press Service" under President Moi for seven years. He returned to KBC and retired in 1997 with the title of chief radio program director.
Even after his retirement he has continued to be heard on the radio reading the news and his episode "Je Huu ni Ungwana?".
