NETFLIX'S DAREDEVIL: An Underated masterpiece

When I was in highschool my enjoyment of comicbooks grew even more, especially when I was getting to know marvel comics, and this is when I got to know more characters like Moonknight, white Tiger and many more. But one specific comicbook that I enjoyed the most was the devil of hell's kitchen dubbed daredevil. It was a comicbook that intrigued my teenagehood and how cool a blind guy with cool martial arts moves, taking down ninjas.

I got excited that a daredevil movie was released, and I quite enjoyed even though now I find it off putting, but I understood the Aspects they were trying to pull. Later I got to experience the difference aspects of the character, other than blind superhero taking down Ninjas. An aspect of the characters struggles and beliefs and how he deals with his issues while going into different adventures with characters like spiderman, Captain America and the rest. The Netflix show made it even better with newer aspects of the character.

STORY

The show centers on a blind lawyer named Mathew Murdock who has another persona as the vigilante, devil of hell's kitchen Daredevil. When he was blinded by some chemicals after saving an old man from a car accident. He gets infected by it and goes blind. He grows up to be a lawyer and starts a small law firm with his best friend and college roommate Franklin "Foggy" Nelson. His father lost his life after winning a fight he was to lose on purpose by the bet made by a mobster.

After not losing on purpose, Mathew's father is gunned down leaving Mathew orphaned. He is trained by another old blind man after his eyes get more painful. The old man that calls himself sticks and helps Mathew learn about martial arts and how to see by use of other senses other than his eyes. He fights criminals, politicians and a crimelord of hell's kitchen called Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin, who controls most of the criminal underbelly. Mathew decides to hire a witness named Karen Page and help her find justice.

THEMES

The themes of the show are of course Heroism but takes other thematic context to play like the law and it's attributes of it being blind, Justice and how it's not easy to obtain it, Fatherhood and the issues behind a father and son relationship, religion and Faith and it's teachings that guide the character to his quest to justice. There is nuance, complexities and understanding to this topics, providing a more grounded human aspect of life.

An underrated masterpiece

As the word "masterpiece" has being used for so many times in different context, but in this context it fits perfectly. The show is a blend of complex thematic context with a blend of superb grounded action and spectacle. It balances both narrative and action while telling a compelling story about the criminal justice system and how alot of powerful men abuse it, while taking down the less fortunate.
